Coming to Ghana
Visiting Ghana: eVisa and ETA
Since 25 May 2026, Ghana has replaced visa on arrival with a digital pre-travel system. Most visitors now need an eVisa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they fly.
Last reviewed 8 November 2026
- How to apply
- Online through the Ghana eVisa portal linked from the Ghana Immigration Service website. Use the portal's eligibility checker to see whether your passport needs an ETA or an eVisa.
- Timing
- Apply before you travel. Early reports put eVisa decisions at around 72–96 hours. Allow more time, as the system is new.
What changed
Ghana’s previous mix of visa-free entry, consular visas and visa on arrival has been replaced by a digital pre-travel system, in force since 25 May 2026:
- ECOWAS nationals (and, according to announcements, nationals of the AES states): visa-free with a valid passport.
- Other African Union nationals, and people from countries that were previously visa-exempt: a free ETA before departure.
- Everyone else: an eVisa, applied for and paid online. This also replaces visa on arrival for people who used to rely on it.
Some operational details are still being clarified by the authorities. We update this guide as official guidance is published.
How Evik helps visitors to Ghana
If you’re hosting international guests (a conference, a delegation, a wedding or family visitors) we can:
- Brief your guests on which authorisation applies to them.
- Prepare invitation letters and supporting documents.
- Arrange airport meet-and-greet, hotels and transfers.
- Plan city tours and heritage trips, such as Cape Coast and Elmina, for free days.
Evik provides guidance and support. Entry decisions rest with the Ghana Immigration Service. Always confirm current requirements with official sources before travel.
